My dad bought this 1975 Ruger Single Six Convertible used in the early 1980's. The stainless versions were not available in his favorite barrel length of 4 5/8". So, he cut this one down from 5 1/2", recrowned the muzzle, then drilled and tapped it to remount the front sight.

He liked his little custom .22 so much that he sent it off to Jeff Flannery of Union, KY to have it engraved. Jeff duplicated his artistry on both the .22 long rifle and .22 magnum cylinders, including the gold band. My dad was so happy with how the revolver turned out that he bought a pair of genuine elephant ivory handles with factory Ruger medallions to set it off just right! He also installed a Bunkhouse spring kit to lightened the action and trigger. It's amazingly accurate!

I have a Single Six as well. My dad and I spent hours upon hours shooting against each other on a plinking/dueling tree. We would chide each other as we tried to reload the single actions under pressure to get back on target and knock a steel plate to the other's side!

My dad passed away in 2004 after a 5 year battle against cancer. His beautifully engraved Ruger is now in my safe. Someday, my daughter will use it to compete against me. I know her Grandpa would be proud!

I took this photo with my Kodak C875 digital camera on our kitchen table. On a cloudy date, the sunlight is just about perfect to capture the details of the engraving and the grain of the ivory grips.
